Sensationalism in Television Current Affairs.

Last night manage to catch the last few minutes of  a “leading current affairs program” they were apparently in the midst of patting themselves on the back for yet another journalistic triumph. From what I gathered the crew had been with police as they  tracked an alleged pedephile grooming a young victim over the internet. The clip shown featured the mans arrest and the reporter walking alongside the detained man, supposedly asking questions of him. From the little I saw, the questions where not actually questions, but more statements of opinion by the journalist.

“You’re certainly one depraved individual aren’t you?” and “People/men like you are never innocent!”  I may have gotten the exact quotes wrong but you get the gist of the line of questioning used. Designed more to make for sensational viewing than to gain a genuine reply. As I said I only caught the last few minutes of this, so the rest of the story may have been totally balanced and responsible, however, I somehow doubt it. I can’t help wondering if the man detained faces a trial by jury whether he could claim that his chance of a fair trial was damaged by his face and the reportes allegations/questioning being broadcast on national television.

Now for something totally unrelated, below is a pic from our Royalty Free stock Library of dead tree stumps in a saline lake.
