Good flows in the Murray River.
Murray River is running well at the moment, probably around ten years since we had a good flush like this, with more to come. Lower Murray Water are predicting futher increases to the flow over the next few days which could see another 25 – 30% increase in river flows.
Canon 1D IV up against Nikon D3s

I’m frankly a little disappointed that the Nikon D3s is so very good. Even more so when I see the files coming from the new f1.4 24mm Nikkor lens.
Getting ready to shoot some WET stuff on location in Melbourne.
Doesn’t matter, photographing in the rain is sometimes a lot of fun and you always get something a little different.
Time just keeps on flying by….
I’ve just heard that the smallest of the ankle biters next door turns 18 years old today. Seems like only yesterday that she was knee high to a very small grass hopper. Happy birthday Jackie. We arrive on this planet, touch a few peoples hearts and then in a blink of an eye we’ve all [...]
RIP Rights Managed Stock Photography,
Rumours abound about the big stock photography libraries considering ditching Rights Managed Stock
Getting excited, another week and then 3 days of non structured shooting.
Usually when I do this sort of stuff, I go in with a bit of an idea as to what I’m going to try and achieve. Not this time Ollie. Going in stone cold. Just walk up and shoot.
Photographer at Blanche Cup, outback South Australia.
Still at Blanche Cup, this shot shows just how a photographer sometimes just has to take a different look at things. Ignoring the obvious shot, photographer Andrew Chapman, turns his back on the spectacle of Blanche Cup Mound Spring and shoots into the setting sun. His subject, surrounding arid landscapes just to temping to resist. [...]
Natural spring water in the Australian outback.
When you’re out tripping around the Australian outback, you can’t ever count on finding fresh water anywhere. When you do however, you are often rewarded with some unexpected surprises. Sometimes its the watery environment, sometimes its the wildlife attracted to the water. When we came across Blanche Cup Mound Spring, west of Marree on the [...]
Outback Australia, looking good.
Don’t expect to see fields with knee high grass all over them. Yeah I know there are places like that but for the large part a good season is a little more subtle.
Balloon flights or rides over Lake Eyre.
We’re seeing a fair number of people arriving at this site after searching for “balloon flights over Lake Eyre” or “Balloon rides over Lake Eyre”.
I’m the photo stylist, I own the copyright on all photos.

Here’s an interesting take on copyright. This morning I had a stylist, who I’ve never to my knowledge worked with, claim that they owned copyright of some images I produced because they styled the job. Now I’m not sure what they mean by styled, because at the shoot there was only the model and our [...]
Fire juggling on Lake Eyre, Australia’s largest salt lake.

While we were up shooting around Lake Eyre, we had an opportunity to shoot with a good bloke by the name of Andrew Clegg. Andrew is a shearer by vocation, but has been juggling for years, as well as song writing and performing as a hobby. When I heard that Andrew had some of his [...]
Tyre tracks on Lake Eyre South

Shot at dawn on Lake Eyre South, while we were out hunting down some pictures. Solid tripod, long exposure, while trying not to shiver to much in the bitter early morning desert cold. But who’d want to swap this job of ours for a soft cushy office job working normal hours? Not this little photo [...]
Shooting bad weather pictures.

Long ago I use to look on the photographers who follow dramatic weather events as just a little crazy. I still think they are but have to admire their bravery as they pursue great weather images. Laurie Excell, an American nature photographer and educator has a story on her blog that you should check out. [...]
Getting ready to hit the road to Lake Eyre.

With a little under a week to go before hitting the road into the South Australian outback on another photo safari, things have been a little busy around here at excitations stock. Funny thing, happens almost every time we plan a trip away, we suddenly have a host of new projects both large and small [...]
It must be an election year.

Here in Victoria we’re ever so lucky, we’ve got two elections coming up. Both Federal and state governments are headed for an election before years end. Oh goodie… Endless hours of dribble on TV and radio as well as newspapers and online media sources filled with spin. Its been bad enough that we’ve had to [...]
Visual pushups….

The great Jay Maisel said recently during an interview with Scott Kelby on a Kelby Training video that one of the most important things for a photographer to do is practice. Sportsmen and women who want to reach the top of their chosen fields train relentlessly for hours on a daily basis. In fact almost [...]
Beautiful lightning photos

Photographer,Filip Molcan pointed me towards this collection of lightning photos. Wow… I may never point a camera towards a cloud again. Nah, just joking, that’s what photographers do, we dream of capturing a couple of great images during our life times. Here is the link to the lightning pictures. And below is my feeble effort [...]
Wonderful bit of free photographic advice from Laurie Excell

Just noticed a new post from Laurie Excell on her blog about the use of perspective in a photo. Laurie is a pretty good shooter and spends a lot of her time conducting workshops and nature photography tours. Take a look at her example images and you’ll see how sometimes you just have to add [...]
Leaf digital back in action.

Creating a photo with Colin Anderson. Leaf, the makers of fine digital capture backs for medium format camera’s have an interesting step by step, of how an image was created on their website. Makes for really good reading even if you’re not into photography. Colin Anderson is a Melbourne based photographer, who tackles lots of [...]
TV cameraman sacked.

Today in Victoria we see the news that a Channel 9 TV cameraman was shown the door by his bosses for an incident recently where he was filming a father and son on the street after leaving court in Melbourne. The sacking wasn’t for filming the individuals involved, but instead for the manner in which [...]
Low level aerial Melbourne

Start of a new stock week and I can’t help but wonder what’s in store for us this week. Last week, our first two sales on Monday morning were for low level aerial images. The low level aerial below was used in the UK as a half page in a newspaper editorial in a large [...]

Saline lakes, Southern Australia.

Environmental disasters come in all shapes and sizes. Some are man made others most likely naturally occurring but from our point of view are disasters.
